چکیده

cross-sectional images of common and superficial femoral arteries (CFA and SFA). Fig 2 Shows the difference of CA burden in the CFA and SFA. Statistically significant differences were detected between the two segments (P<0.01). CFA had a bigger CA burden than SFA. Fig 3 Comparison of CA burden in different NWI groups. A statistically significant difference occurred between the three groups (P<0.01). Fig 4A, 4B, 4C are cross-sectional proton density-weighted images of the femoral artery with a NWI of 0.65, 0.70, 0.88. The CA burdens are 2.64%, 4.73% and 20.76%, respectively. Coexistence of Calcification, Intraplaque Hemorrhage and Lipid Core within the Asymptomatic Atherosclerotic Carotid Plaque: The Rotterdam Study.

BACKGROUND There is a growing amount of evidence suggesting that the composition of carotid atherosclerotic plaques may be of clinical relevance. Yet, little is known on the coexistence of potentially vulnerable and stabilizing components within asymptomatic plaques. Therefore, in this study we set out to investigate the coexistence of intraplaque calcification, hemorrhage and lipid core within...

Identification of basilar plaque components using multicontrast high-resolution 3-tesla MRI

Introduction Rupture of vertebrobasilar plaque with subsequent thrombosis or distal embolization represents the principal pathophysiology of acute atherothrombotic stroke in the posterior circulation [1]. Multicontrast high-resolution MR imaging (HRMRI) has emerged as an effective tool for the assessment of carotid plaque vulnerability because its lipid-rich/necrotic core (LR/NC), intraplaque h...

Characterization of Plaque with SWI Approach: Ex vivo Study

Purpose Major atherosclerotic plaque components (lipid, calcification, intraplaque hemorrhage or IH) were able to be identified with an established multi-contrast plaque imaging approach in MRI [1]. However, interscan patient motion, partial volume effect, and flow artifacts may render the accurate segmentation of plaque components difficult. Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) shows capabili...

Association of carotid atherosclerosis eccentricity with high risk plaque features: An MRI study

Introduction Identifying patients with carotid atherosclerosis at risk for ischemic stoke would greatly benefit patient outcomes. Recently, high-resolution methods have enabled MRI to noninvasively image the fine internal structure of the carotid plaque [1]. Some carotid plaque features, such as the presence of intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) and thin or ruptured fibrous cap on multi-contrast weig...

Incremental value of carotid intraplaque hemorrhage for discriminating prior coronary events

Background: The value of noninvasive assessment of carotid plaque composition in identifying patients with high coronary risk remains elusive. We sought to determine whether and which carotid plaque components are associated with prior coronary events independent of traditional risk factors and plaque burden. Methods: Asymptomatic subjects with 50-79 % carotid stenosis by ultrasound were imaged...
